Class 5's Space Day

To support Class 5's work on The Earth In Space, we welcomed visitors from Callington Space Centre to our school. There was lots of opportunity for discussion and the day culminated in a rocket flying competition on the school field. The winners were Richard, Lucy and Charlotte. Read the full report below. Everyone had a fantastic day! You can find out more about Callington Space Centre at www.callingtonspacecentre.co.uk. (Woolsery Primary School is not responsible for content of external web sites)

Rockets Take Off At Woolsery School

(Reporter: Richard P)

On Thursday 24th January an astronomer came to Woolsery to talk to Class 5 about the Solar System. In the morning he told us of many discoveries in space, including a liquid sea under 60kn of ice on one of Jupiter's moons!

During the afternoon, he taught us how to make rockets; one of which, The Superstar Eleven made by Finn B, was crushed during touch down. The Apollo 14 made by Richard P, made the furthest flight over an estimated 15 mteres, at the same time is made the highest flight. The second furthest rockets were made by Charlotte E and Lucy B.

At the end of the day the class was given a book called UK Solar Eclipses from Year 1 to 3,000 and Lucy, Richard and Charlotte each got a Callington Space Centre pen which can't be found in any shop!
