November 19th & 20th 2009: Year 4 begin our Community Cohesion Project with an overnight stay at our partner school, King William Street Primary in Swindon

The project will run for three years and will help us to get to know how children in different parts of the UK live, and how their lives are different to ours.

Day One

When we arrived, we played on the play equipment. This will help us advise School Council abot what we need on our playground.

Then we set up "camp" in the school hall. It's much bigger than our hall, and there was room for everyone.

In the evening, we went on a night-time treasure hunt on King William Street's School Field (the teddies stayed at school!)

We also shared a delicious Indian Meal with our new friends at the Curry Garden in Old Town. Some of us had never tried curry, but we loved it!

Then it was back to school for Ice Age 2 before lights out and (eventually) some sleep!

Day 2

After a...erm....good night's sleep, we shared breakfast in the Hall

Then we went out into Old Town to find out the ways in which land is used around the school.

We found lots of shops and other businesses, loads of traffic and lots of pedestrian crossings. We learnt how to use these in a large group! We went to Old Town Lawns to look over the rest of Swindon... well, some of it!

After lunch, we all went ice skating. For most of us, it was the first time we'd tried it.

To begin with, we spent quite a lot of time sitting down, but we helped each other and got quite good by the end of the session!

We left King William Street at 4:00pm for our long, long journey back to North Devon.

Thank you to everyone at King William Street for making us feel so welcome. We can't wait to meet up with you again in March when you come to us!
