Teaching in Africa

Miss Butler writes...

On Thursday 29th July I fly out to Tanzania to begin a 3 week teaching project in a village school at the base of Kilimanjaro. I am going with an organisation called “Gap Guru” (www.gapguru.com) which arranges various projects around the world. It is the first time they have set up a teaching programme in Tanzania . The school I will be working at is a government primary school with 779 pupils from 7-13 years. The class sizes will be between 60 and 80 pupils with very little resources. I will be staying with a family (probably a teacher from the school) for the duration of the project and then travelling around for 10 days before travelling back to the UK for the beginning of September. I hope to do a camping safari and then have some relaxation on the island of Zanzibar and get some diving in. I will update you on how I am getting on via email which will be put on this website.

Moshi, the nearest town to where Miss Butler is teaching, is in the country of Tanzania, which is on the east coast of Africa. One of the most famous landmarks in Africa is the huge mountain, Kilimanjaro. You can see Kilimanjaro from Moshi.
